This is the question every GM asks himself or herself before to take an important decision. If you loose the trend of development you will took wrong decision.

According some of important persons at hospitality industry there are few points which are significant:

1.       Good location - letting the location - nature - be the star.

2.       Fresh local foods. No import. It is healthier also.

3.       Good music. All the rooms should have players.

4.       No hidden extras. If a hotel costs a lot it shouldn’t nickel and dime over small things. The worst thing in the world is to be charged for water. It’s disgusting.

5.       People need to stop wasting hot air talking about service and give guests what they really want.

6.       Guest history - If you use IT subtly it can be great, People wonder: ‘How did you know that?’ The information can be as detailed as which side of the bed slippers should be placed. Almost every hotel management software have a Guest History Manager use it J

7.       The size matter nowadays J It’s so expensive to buy a large home, especially in London, so when people stay at a hotel they want space. Space is a real luxury. Bathrooms are getting bigger and bigger. Separate showers as well as baths are becoming standard

Manage effectively HK departament

Mybe most important goal of every manager who is try to make housekeeping department more effective is to reduce the costs. This is known by everybody. The question is from where to start and how to control all the commitment.  The final result we try to reach is clear- clear and tidy hotel.  

At the middle of 90s clear and well maintained hotel means to reduce the number of employers and which effects of reduce the cost commonly.

I mean reduce of cost at modern thinking way with the help of vacuum cleaners, rags and dusters.

The good news is that housekeeping is the department where you may apply all your improvements, which may be invisible for the guests but the effect is visible for financial managers. The point is to do this with all your efforts. Before to start with changes, the HKM should organize a good plan, which should be created together with the senior chambermaid.  The plan must be simple, easy to perform, and efforts necessary for plan should be min. Until you develop the plan, you should explore the system you use at the moment at HK department very carefully ( in case you still not did it do it immediately) . Research will show up you the problems and you will see  how much the system is effective.

Striving to achieve the best possible result, probably you will ask yourself the question - if there exist only one problem which should be solved or you should organize all the department.

Developing the product-plan pay attention to points described below :

Check what kind of cleaning devices and cleaning preparation you use. You should be sure  that you order the right devices and suppliers. The needs of hotel with 50 rooms are much more different than this one with 200 rooms.

Take immediate action, to stop small robberies. This is a good way to stop resources flow out from hotel.

Organize a plan, which will guarantee the flexible working of the department ( especially pay attention to occupancy during high and low season periods)

To improve the quality control, use the checklist, which should have all duties of one chambermaid.

Once a week the senior chambermaid should make inspection to assure himself ( herself) that every point from checklist is done.  Additional inspection is extra job to regular duties of senior chambermaid, so this duty should be paid as bonus. This will help her to realize that this inspections is important to her (his) managers.

Accor use the power of internet to incease the reservation

According Accor last report 41% of reservation are made by people who are subscriber to Accor’s e newsletter. This show how effectively they use the tools which online media offer to hospitality industry.  Today many organizations try to get benefits from on-line distributions chanals, but only few of them have success.  The famous hotel chain, seems that found the right formula for  increasing the visitors and of course reservations made by them.

Mathieu Staat, Director, Customer Relationships & Marketing, Accor Hotels, a Paris-based hotelier, and his team focused on kicking up their house list email campaigns early last year. Creating a one-to-one email program with their multilingual customer base received high priority.
“With the Expedia.coms of the world today and so forth, we wanted to take more control of our distribution,” he says. “To do that, we had to create better value and establish greater customer relationships.”

Hilton Hotel Groups launched their new tools for e-booking for small business groups. Every they we read news how big hotels chains announced their new and easy way to make booking. Following this trend Hildton Group released tools ( part of their e-booking ) which will allow their guest to make direct reservation from web site of hotel.

This will give complete control to Hilton bussiness partner when they plan their events. Representing a first in the hotel industry, the Hilton Family of Hotels enables planners or organizers to book their next meeting or event online from start to finish, with no RFP and no waiting. Planners can book up to 25 guest rooms one year in advance, as well as meeting space, high speed Internet access, food and beverage, and audio/visual equipment online, 24/7. It sounds really futuristic but it is real
